From Uprising to Uplifting: A Juneteenth Call to Action

Save the Boards (STB) founder Kenda Zellner-Smith and the STB Vision Council will host “From Uprising to Uplifting: A Juneteenth Conversation” on June 17, from 5:30 - 6:45 pm at All Square, located at 4047 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55406.

For the past five years, Save the Boards has carefully preserved hundreds of plywood boards painted by community members, artists, and activists during the movement for racial justice.

Save the Boards is now inviting local businesses, organizations, schools, libraries, community/recreation, and cultural centers – to name a few – to this event, to learn how to become a steward of a resistance board or boards which can be displayed in their own their spaces; community conference rooms, lobbies, auditoriums, libraries, community/recreation centers, cultural centers and other spaces accessible or viewable by the public. Each board has the power to continue to speak, teach and inspire.

“Uprising to Uplifting” is a call to action: an invitation to learn about the history of the Save the Board movement, reflect on its ongoing impact, and explore how community spaces can become part of preserving and amplifying collective memory.

On Tuesday June 17, attendees at the All Square event will be able to view the digital collection.

These temporary artworks were created in response to pain and trauma, yet their messages surpass their ephemeral quality. From images of hope to words of hopelessness to portraits of George Floyd, the visceral response remains real and a call to action.

This event is free and open to the public.
