Keep Sidewalks Clear for Winter Cheer!

Lake Street Council encourages businesses and property owners to clear snow from the sidewalks around their property as quickly as possible to maintain good access. Minnesota snows are unpredictable and can dramatically change customer traffic flow, but maintaining clear sidewalks is one key element to reducing barriers for our customers and nearby residents.

The City of Minneapolis has published their regulations for sidewalk snow and ice removal here. A few key rules to keep in mind are:

  1. All sidewalks along your property are your responsibility to clear. If your property is on a corner lot, you are also responsible for clearing curb cutouts at the street corners.

  2. Sidewalks must be cleared within 4 daytime hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) after it stops snowing. This prevents build-up of packed snow from turning to ice.

  3. If the snow is packed down or there’s ice you cannot remove, sprinkle sand until it's warm enough to remove the buildup.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Lake Street welcoming to all!
