Dear Lake Street Community,

The Lake Street Council is deeply concerned about the federal immigration enforcement presence happening in our community. The Lake Street Council condemns the divisive rhetoric and actions targeting our Somali, East African, and Latino community members, along with the many other communities facing discrimination and attacks on their rights and dignity. These neighbors are integral to the fabric of our business community and neighborhood. They are business owners, employees, customers, valued residents, and families who contribute immeasurably to what makes Lake Street special. We stand with all marginalized communities and will continue to support them.

Please remember this important information about your rights:

  • You have the right to remain silent and to request to speak with a lawyer

  • You can refuse to sign documents until you consult with legal counsel

  • Your business is private property - You have the right not to open your door unless presented with a valid judicial warrant signed by a judge with your correct name and address

If you witness federal enforcement activity, contact the MONARCA (www.monarcamn.org) rapid response hotline at 612-441-2881.

No matter the changes happening around us, we will prioritize the needs of our small business community. Lake Street Council will continue to serve all the businesses, diverse communities, and people who call Lake Street home. Our mission, vision, and values remain unchanged.

The Lake Street Council is not a rapid response organization. As we learn more about activities happening in our community, we will inform you to the best of our ability.
