Explore Lake Street’s Public Art
Pop Up Parks
The Lake Street Council is planning a vibrant season of activating our corridor’s community spaces this year, and we need your help! We manage two community parks - El Nuevo Campo and Midtown Mini Park. We’re seeking proposals for activations between June 1 and July 31, 2026, for:
Art Installations: temporary murals, sculptures, or interactive public art
Artist-led Workshops & Performances: printmaking, storytelling, music, dance, spoken word sessions, yoga, etc.
Other ideas to bring positive, art-related programming to our community's green spaces!
Proposals are due April 15, 2026.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
Midtown Mini Park
The Midtown Mini Park is a temporary community amenity located on private property at Columbus Ave and E Lake Street (715 E Lake St) featuring LED swings.
El Nuevo Campo
El Nuevo Campo is a temporary public space project, designed to activate a currently vacant lot over the next 3-4 years. This site has historically been an important community gathering place, previously as the home to the Oddfellows Hall and more recently as El Nuevo Rodeo music venue and La Raza Radio, until the loss of the building in 2020.

Take a Mural Tour
We invite you to explore with us the beauty that Lake Street has to offer!
Lake Street is a vibrant and bustling outdoor art gallery, boasting an array of captivating murals that weave a tale of South Minneapolis’s diverse history and creativity. Each mural and public art piece invites you to immerse yourself in its story. Join us on a sensory journey through art, culture, and community – there's always something new to uncover on our vibrant street, including a treasure trove of small businesses that exude warmth and hospitality.
Our public art and community activation program aims to foster economic vitality and amplify Lake Street's vibrancy by mobilizing the unique assets of artists and community members. By activating the corridor with events, art, and creativity, we can bring a sense of belonging and build strong ties to a place, encouraging economic activity for the many small businesses along the Lake Street corridor.
Since 2020, we have funded over 40 murals, sculptures, and temporary art installations, investing over $500,000 in beautification efforts.
